The Art of Being Present

What Does It Mean to Be Present?

In a time when life feels busier than ever, being truly present is a skill that can often feel out of reach. It’s easy to let our thoughts wander, to get caught up in the pull of distractions, or to focus on the next thing rather than what’s happening right now. But mindfulness invites us to pause, to step into the moment and fully experience it without judgment.

How Mindfulness Shapes My Work

In the darkroom, mindfulness is not a choice—it’s a necessity. The process demands full attention. From mixing chemicals to exposing light-sensitive paper, every step requires focus and intention. It’s a practice of slowing down, of fully engaging with each part of the process and letting the outcome unfold naturally.

This approach has taught me that mindfulness isn’t about forcing a result. It’s about embracing the process, imperfections and all, and finding meaning in the act of creation itself.

Everyday Mindfulness

Mindfulness doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as taking a moment to notice the light spilling through a window or the feel of a texture in your hands. It’s about tuning into the small details we often overlook, the quiet moments that give our days shape and meaning.

For me, mindfulness isn’t just part of my art—it’s part of how I see the world. And it’s a reminder that life, like art, is not just about the outcome, but about how we experience the journey.
